Is mystery shopping worth it?

Depending on what you may view as being "worth it", this could mean something different to everyone.
Mystery shopping can be a fun way to see how a business is run, all-the-while you're getting paid to do it. There a a few other ways that someone can see mystery shopping as a worthwhile experience. It all depends on what you're looking for.
For most people, it's being paid cash for doing something easy. Why not? With the way the economy's been up and down, mostly down, lately, a few extra bucks in your pocket can go a long way.
Don't expect to make tons of money, though. Mystery shopping usually pays anywhere from $5-$25 per assignment. Which isn't bad considering you don't have to spend much time doing the actual shop. The average time length is around 20-30 minutes.
Other people may be looking for cash, but on top of that, being able to get a free oil change or tire rotation, see a free movie, or get a free meal. These are just a few of the things you can do.

Now, initially you do have to pay for those services or products, but you will be reimbursed later when paid for the shop. If you set up your schedule for the month to do three mystery shops, that could be three free date nights!
There may be some people who are retired, unable to work, or housewives/husbands who need to get out of the house every once in a while and are looking for something to do.
This is perfect for a once or twice a week thing to get out and have a hobby. It's especially nice to have a hobby that pays! Plus, you feel like you're helping others to have an enjoyable shopping or dining experience.
Applying to be a mystery shopper is actually quite easy. Just fill out an online form with your name, email address and mailing address to get your checks in the mail. You can find many companies at SurveyMoneyGuide.com that are 100% free to join and frequently email you when shops are available.
Don't ever pay to mystery shop and NEVER provide your credit card information. Legitimate mystery shop companies will never ask for this. There are some websites, you can log into and see what shops they have available in your area. Unless you don't mind driving, try to find shops within a ten to fifteen mile radius.
Long drives aren't worth it for a mystery shop unless you're already going to be in a particular area nearby. You would basically be getting paid for the gas you used to drive there. Plus, unless specified, you will NOT be reimbursed for gas or mileage.
Whichever category you fall into, mystery shopping can be worth it. Very little work for some extra money to do whatever you please. It doesn't get much better than that!
